MBA Medical Business Associates has expanded their partnership with Allscripts in order to provide their billing clients with low-cost access to an electronic medical records (EMR) system. MBA has maintained a loyal partnership with Allscripts since 2002, using the industry-leading vendor’s Tiger practice management system for most of their clients. An extensive search for solutions to help improve the efficiency of their billing operations and increase the scope of their services led MBA back to Allscripts, this time for the MyWay EMR system.

By hosting the Allscripts MyWay EMR for our billing clients we are able to improve patient care, streamline workflow, and help our clients qualify for government incentives,” explains MBA President Michele Andersen.

Federal funds were allocated by the 2009 HITECH act to provide incentives through Medicare and local Medicaid programs in order to stimulate the adoption of electronic medical records. In order to qualify for incentives, practices must not only purchase a certified EMR, but also demonstrate “meaningful use” of the system. As meaningful use guidelines become clearer this year, MBA is structuring a plan in conjunction with Allscripts to help clients show that they are using their EMR effectively, to improve patient outcomes and connect electronically with other healthcare systems.

MBA currently offers Allscripts MyWay hosting, training and implementation to existing clients who use their medical billing and consultation services. However, later this year they plan to make their hosted EMR solution available to new clients as well.

By expanding the scope of services they provide to include electronic medical records, MBA Medical Business Associates hopes to capitalize on the current incentives and demand for certified EMR systems while also maintaining their core mission of simplifying the business side of running a medical practice. They state that their ongoing goal is to offer solutions to help their clients stay ahead of changes in the medical industry while allowing the clients to stay focused on practicing medicine; a goal they continue to share with Allscripts.
